Japan’s Economic Policy and Its Effects
In recent years, Japan has faced several economic challenges, such as rising prices, a weak yen, and a declining population. Because of these problems, the government is trying to improve the economy through new policies.
One idea is to increase government spending. By investing more money in areas such as technology, energy, and infrastructure, the government hopes to create jobs and support economic growth. For example, the government is planning to support the development of advanced technologies like semiconductors. This may help Japanese companies become more competitive in the global market.

近年日本が直面している経済問題、例えば、物価上昇、円安、人口減少に対して、日本政府は政府支出等を通じてこれらの問題に対処しようとしていることを論じた長文を用いて授業を展開しました。
日本政府は、半導体のような先進技術、エネルギー、インフラに投資をして新規雇用を生み出し、経済成⾧を支えたいと説明されています。このほか、国家安全保障やエネルギー関連も政府が注力している分野であることが言及されています。 しかし、政府支出を増やすと言うことは、国債発行を通じてお金を調達して上記分野に投資をしていくことになりますが、日本政府は既に多額の負債を抱えています。日本政府は、国債の発行量（負債）と経済政策のバランスを常に図っています。
いくつか重要な単語熟語（in conclusion, development, debt等々）も覚えて下さいということで生徒に説明をしたところ、「そもそも株高って何？」、「銀行は何故利息をつけてお金を返してくれるのか？」等、英語の授業を超えた質問も頂戴しました。株価や銀行ビジネスの概観を説明した際の、生徒の「へー、そうなっているんだー！」という新鮮な発見に満ちた顔はとても印象的でした。
今後も英語力を伸ばすことはもちろんのこと、生徒の教養、知見を広げられるような授業を展開していきたいと考えています。
